Snowman Rattle

This is a clay snowman shaker that I made in my ceramics class last month. To make this snowman I started with six pinch pots. Using those pinch pots I created the snowman's body. I slipped and scored the pinch pots and attached them together. To make the snowman rattle and make noise, I put clay balls inside the pinch pots before I fired them. To make the scarf I rolled a piece of clay into a coil and wrapped it around the snowman's neck. The buttons, eyes, and mouth were all made by rolling pieces of clay into balls and attaching them to the body. I finished this snowman by painting him with low fire paints. This was fired twice in the kiln, once with paint and once after it was painted. I personally think that this piece turned out really nice. If I had a chance to redo this piece, I would make the body of the snowman smoother by using the back of the spoon to give it a smoother finish.

Coil Pot

I recently created a coil pot in class. I started my pot by rolling out a slab of clay, then, I cut it into a medium sized circle to create the base. After the base was made, I started rolling coils of clay. Each coil had to be slipped, scored, and attached separately. After the pot was 10 inches tall, I fired it. When it came out of the kiln, I glazed the coil pot. Then I fired it a second time.

Mug

This is a picture of a mug that I made in ceramics class. It is white with pink writing around the mug. To make this mug I rolled out a slab of clay and used a cylinder to create its cylinder shape. After, I created the handle by rolling and shaping the clay in to the thickness that I desired, then I slipped and scored the ends and the points where the handle meets the cylinder. I used slip to smooth the edges of the handle. When I was finished creating the shape that I wanted, I decorated my mug. Using a needle tool I wrote the word "love" on the side on my mug, I then painted on white scrafito and fired my mug. After it was fired, I used pink paint and painted in the "love" on the front of it. Finally, I finished my mug by firing it for the second time.

Wire Sculpture

This is a wire sculpture that I made in class. To make this I took wire and shaped it into a fish shape. The hard part was twisting the wire so that everything stayed in place. After I sculpted my fish I used paper mache to cover the body of the fish, leaving the fins to create open space. After doing many layers of paper mache, I let my fish dry. When it was dry I painted it red, orange, and yellow. Something that I would have done differently would have been to make the fish a different shape. This project took me around 2 weeks to complete.

Pinch Pot

This is a pinch pot that I made in class. The glaze that I used is called green copper. On the sides of my pinch pot I have several different designs that are repeated around the pot. To make these designs I used the needle tool. To make this pinch pot I took a ball of clay and inserted my thumb in the middle creating a hole. Using your thumb and other fingers you pinch around the sides until you end up with a pot like this. Something I would have done different with this piece would be to make the bottom of it more level. This piece took me around a week to make.
